Although being traded to the Washington Redskins after playing for the Philadelphia Eagles for 11 seasons, quarterback Donovan McNabb still has an attachment to the Philadelphia city. He is now working for a different team but still sent some good wishes to his former teammates.
While holding a charity work for 320 Philadelphia kids, McNabb was asked by some reporters about his opinions on his former team, Eagles. McNabb, the former long-time starting quarterback of the Eagles, said that he hoped young Eagles should learn how to handle with criticism. He said that a leading role always draws criticism for team’s bad performance and his being trade will cause the critics to change their target to successor leader or starters at other positions. Starting quarterbacks are always the targets, but starting receivers could also face boos. So Eagles new starters like Kevin Kolb and DeSean Jackson should get ready to deal with embarrassing moments for failing to win.
Actually, McNabb did not name any of his former teammates; instead he took quarterbacks for other teams as examples. He especially pointed out that a starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings is most likely to draw the most criticisms, but fortunately they have a starting quarterback in No. 4 Brett Favre jersey and the 40-year old quarterback does not care much what others think or talk about him, so criticism seldom affects him, but for young Eagles players, they have been used to get credits and let McNabb deal with the problem. Now McNabb is no long there, they may have to face the criticism themselves.
